This is your opportunity to watch wild wolves with the experts in Yellowstone's premier wildlife viewing area. Join Nathan Varley, a native of Yellowstone, whose doctoral research on wolves and elk has illuminated fascinating aspects of ecology in the nation’s first national park. This is an opportunity you shouldn’t miss, as you will stay in the heart of wolf country, the famous Lamar Valley, which is known as the Serengeti of North America for its vast herds of bison and elk and the many predators that pursue them. Therein, you will hike and snowshoe short distances with a Yellowstone Institute naturalist-guide to areas of interest that might include a wolf den or a wolf-killed carcass. Your accommodations will be in heated private cabins at the historic Buffalo Ranch situated at the crossroads of wildlife activity in the valley. Gourmet meals will be served by a caterer each day, and along the way you will be joined by special guests including Dr. Douglas W. Smith, chief biologist of Yellowstone’s Wolf Recovery Project, Linda Thurston, biologist with Defenders of Wildlife whose cutting edge wolf restoration programs are underway throughout the US, and Bob Landis, an emmy-award winning wildlife cinematographer and producer of two National Geographic films on Yellowstone’s wolf packs. |
