Join Hank and Carol Fischer
and bird expert Kate Davis for a five-day wildlife/fishing
adventure down Montana’s most spectacular stream, the Smith
River. We’ll float for about 60 miles, most of it through an
incredible limestone
canyon with cliffs towering hundreds of feet above the
river. The trout fishing is outstanding and bird life along
the river is terrific.

The trip will
be run in association with High Plains Drifter, who
will supply river equipment, tents, sleeping bags as well as
memorable outdoor meals.
Hank and Carol
(authors of the Paddler’s Guide to Montana) have been down
the river more than twenty times and can lead you to some of
their favorite places.
Kate
Davis is the founder and executive director of the Raptors
of the
Rockies, a
non-profit raptor education project in western Montana.
Kate rehabilitates injured birds of prey, works
with the Montana Peregrine Institute and
also runs an educational program for the public and schools
(she has appeared in nearly one thousand
programs).
On the Smith, plan on owl prowls,
searching
for falcon aerie, and morning bird walks.
For those planning on fishing,
Hank and Carol will
provide angling assistance. In addition, Carol will lead fly
fishing seminars for anyone interested in learning how to
get started in flyfishing. Carol, who was an
instructor and guide for Grizzly Hackle in Missoula for
several years,
specializes in teaching women.
